NRS-250 Surfactant

The special formulation of NRS-250 Surfactant Concentrate, composed of a proprietary blend of high potency surface active agents and detergency builders, promotes the highest cleaning efficiency attainable, even in "hard water". The special blend of cleaning agents overcomes the inhibitory effect of hard water by complexing and removing calcium and magnesium ions, allowing the combination of surfactants to exert their full effect.

Besides water, the special blend of surfactants and builders are the sole components of NRS-250, rinsing away freely and completely, making NRS-250 the "NO RESIDUE SURFACTANT". It is advantageous, therefore, to rinse with distilled or deionized water to maximize this advantage when needed. In certain critical applications, such as silicon wafer and IC chip production for electronic components, NRS-250 produces extremely clean surfaces, after which rinses with high purity water are mandatory to avoid trace recontamination of surfaces by the rinse water.

Aside from the basic surfactant formulation, NRS-250 contains no other additives, such as fluorescent whitening agents, anti-foaming agents, perfumes, corrosion inhibitors, fillers, bleaching agents or enzymes that could interfere with sensitive analytical procedures.

NRS-250 Surfactant loosens and removes virtually all contaminants that may be encountered in NMR sample tubes and laboratory glassware, including silicone oils and greases, apiezon oils and greases, Canada Balsam, cedar oil, polyethylene and other polymer resins, distillation residues, tar, blood, organic materials and traces of radioisotopes, to name but a few.

When the NRS-250 Surfactant Concentrate is mixed with cold or warm tap water as a 2% working solution (20 mL of NRS-250 per liter of water) laboratory glassware such as test tubes, beakers, reaction flasks, pipettes, etc., as well as microscopy slides and cover slips clean easily by simply immersing the item completely and soaking for a few hours to a day, depending upon the degree and tenacity of the contamination. Using distilled or deionized water initially instead of tap water can extend the useful life of the NRS-250 solution.

Manually agitating or dislodging contaminants using standard laboratory glassware brushes usually speeds the above cleaning process, but when fragility, size or shape preclude mechanical brushing, the basic process of soaking is still completely effective, especially for optical glass such as lenses, spectrophotometer cells, mirrors, etc., which must not be scratched or abraded by brush cleaning.

Alternatively, when manual brush cleaning is not feasible or is undesirable, the time duration of the basic soaking process described above can be decreased greatly by heating or boiling the solution (objects must, however, remain completely immersed) and/or by increasing the NRS-250 concentration above 2%, an effective alternative for objects which cannot be heated.

Throughout the above described soaking and cleaning processes, objects should always remain completely immersed in the NRS-250 working solution, followed immediately by a thorough water rinse upon removal.

Although NRS-250 Surfactant is especially formulated for all types of glassware, it also serves as an excellent general purpose cleaner for plastic, porcelain, ferrous and nonferrous surfaces and equipment found in both laboratories and production facilities of all kinds.
